Machu Picchu was discovered in 1911 by Mr. Hiram Bingham, a professor from the Yale University. But recent studies let us know there were some pre-Inca civilisations established and spread around, so Incas practically took advantage of older civilisations already established. The Inca Empire was destroyed by the Spanish conquest in 1533
