A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the Earth’s shadow, blocking the sunlight that normally reflects off of it.
月は普段は太陽の光を反射させて輝いていますが、月が地球の影を通過すると、太陽の光が遮られ、月食が起こります。
Unlike a solar eclipse, which is only visible from a small area and may last only a few minutes, a lunar eclipse can be viewed from anywhere on the night side of the earth and may last a few hours.
限られた場所で、しかもほんの数分間しか観測できない日食とは違い、月食は日没から日の出前までの地域のどこからでも数時間に及んで確認することができます。
Lunar eclipses can only occur when the moon is full, when the sun, Moon, and Earth are perfectly aligned.
月食は、満月で、かつ太陽と月と地球が完全に一直線に並んだ時にだけ起こります。
The red color appears because sunlight passing beside the Earth goes through a long, thick layer of the atmosphere.
