Tee Off
Each hole starts with a tee shot from the teeing ground.

Play the Ball as It Lies
You must play the ball from where it comes to rest, unless a Rule allows or requires you to move it.

Fewer Strokes Win
The goal is to complete each hole in the fewest number of strokes, and the player with the lowest total score over the entire round (usually 18 holes) wins.

Out of Bounds (OB)
If your ball goes out of bounds (marked by white stakes or lines), you usually have to replay the shot from where you last played, with a one-stroke penalty.

Water Hazards/Penalty Areas
If your ball lands in a water hazard or penalty area (marked by yellow or red stakes/lines), you have options for relief, usually involving a one-stroke penalty.

Bunkers
These are sand hazards. You cannot touch the sand with your club before making your stroke.

Once your ball is on the putting green, you can mark, lift, and clean your ball. You try to roll it into the hole.
